In Early 2005 Dublin Bus came heavely under the line of fire for cuts which were made to the scenic Route 31B service,in favour of the Howth Direct 31 service. To address the problem and give the residents of Howth Summit a direct Sutton-Howth service, lost when the 31 and 31B were terminated at the Summit,in July 2005 Dublin Bus began Route 31C,operated from Clontarf Garage.

The Following Photos are of WV43,delivered to Clontarf Garage in March 2001,on July 16th 2006,at Sutton DART Station. As neither the 32B or the 102 operate here on a Sunday this is the Only Bus service directly to Sutton Station.

WV43 is seen here outside Howth DART Station, the origional terminus for the 31B.This service proceeds further up the Road to turn at the Road Junction to Howth Demesne, when the DART Station Car Parking Area is full. The 31C is mostly operated by WV Class Midibuses, though RA,RV and AV's have chipped in from time to time.

(The more observant of you should pay attention to the right of the drivers cab,you will see why)

The seating capacity of the WV's is perfectly suited to the 31C,and the low floor capabilities of the WV's keeps the route more or less low floor,an advantage in the linking of the Dart Stations in that the 31 and 31B are not guranteed to be low floor.

WV43 Back at Sutton and pulling off on the 14.00 Departure.

The Service frequency varies, with mostly On the Hour Hourly Departures from Sutton and on the Half-Hour Hourly departures from Howth. To see the timetable, click here.

The route lasted until 2009 when cutbacks, nessitated by the Economic Slowdown, saw the route marked for withdrawl. The last departures on the service operated on April 25th 2009, with alternate services operated by the 31 & 31B.
